When I was a girl developing into a woman, there came a point in my teenage years that I had to have THE TALK with my mother. Ya'll know what I'm talking about, that embarrassing uncomfortable moment where mom says the word sex and you feel like your gonna throw up. For most young girls this happens around the time you start your period. This is when things get serious and now you have to be seen in the grocery store buying those things (tampons) that you are trying to hide in a folded news paper.
I remember when I wanted to go on the birth control and it took all my courage to approach my mother with this idea. Getting birth control back in those days (1980's) was a process. You had to make an appointment with the doctor and get a pelvic exam . It was embarrassing, but in order to have sex and not get pregnant this is what us girls had to do.
I remember being offered the " Sex Education" course when I was a sophomore in high school, I had to get a permission slip signed by my dad to even take the course.
So now lets just jump forward into the topic at hand. I have 3 kids. They are all adults now and have kids of their own. Two of those kids are girls. When they were growing up and becoming women I had those uncomfortable talks with them about sex, birth control , getting your period, and babies. But times have changed so much now days that parents really don't have control over their kids sexual behavior. For instance, if your child wants birth control all they have to do is talk to the guidance councilor at school and the councilor will make them an appointment at Family Planning and BAM just like that your kid is on birth control and you may not even know it. The same is true for condoms , they hand them out for free in schools.
I was in a pharmacy today and while walking down the isles looking for the things I needed I found these items. I was so disgusted that these things are being sold in the local pharmacy I had to take a pic to share with all of you . Adult pleasure stores, and online companies like Adam & Eve will be going out of business soon. Those items that use to be age restricted are now being sold down the street at the local pharmacy and there is no age restriction. They are just sitting on the shelf next to tampons and condoms.
I want all of you that are parents to pay attention to what I'm about to say.....
You do not have control. Do you hear me ??? Your child can go to Family Planning and get birth control with out your consent. They can buy pregnancy test at any pharmacy without your consent. If they get pregnant they can now go to the pharmacy and buy the "Take Action" pill to eliminate their pregnancy. There is no age limit on buying this item so it can be done without your consent. If your child is experimenting with sex they can go to the pharmacy and buy sex toys without your consent.
There is absolutely NOTHING you can do about it. The teachers and councilors in schools teach your children that they have "rights." You can not touch them , you can not stop them from leaving the house, you can not raise your voice to them . BUT.....when they commit a crime YOU are responsible. When they get pregnant and are two young to work and are still in school YOU are responsible for child care, health insurance, and any needs that baby has until your child comes of age.
As a mother I feel like it is my right of passage to teach my daughter about sex, and babies , and how to prevent pregnancy. I do not feel that educators in our schools should be inserting themselves into your children's sexual development.
Let's hear what you have to say.............
